Our Team

Brian Furman
Roles: Researcher, Senior Lead Writer, and Digital Website Developer

My name is Brian Furman and I am a sophomore in Computer Science. I am from the Chicago suburbs (Buffalo Grove).
I am interested in automation, which could have many applications in CS, ranging from making a website more effective to automatically distributing advertisements.
In my free time, I enjoy playing cooperative video games and board games.
I am looking forward to discovering the impact of advertisements in the digital realm and applying this knowledge in an original project that can make an impact. The use of advertisements can make or break an application, and it is interesting to see how the user’s knowledge of how the advertisement is given to them would impact their usage of the said computer application.

Maksymilian Podraza
Roles: UI/UX Designer, Chief Solutions Design Officer, and Assistant Researcher

Co-Founder of ownitsb.com – UI/UX Designer, Marketing & Engineering.
I enjoy working on UI/UX solutions for mobile apps and websites. I can do front-end work but it’s not my strong suit. Back-end and data are areas I am strongest in.
I would like to learn how to be a better designer and to learn how I can make users more interested and understanding of what they’re doing.
I like good design. I think that design can make our lives easier and more enjoyable. I’d like to learn how to make the consumer experience more streamlined and enjoyable through smart design.

I am very interested to see how technology continues to advance and gets implemented into out daily activities and lives. I have a special interest in augmented reality and am very eager to see how that is also introduced not only into the advertising industy, but also into small and large businesses and in person shopping and retail.

Mengjing Shi
Roles: Researcher, Writer, Digital Website Developer, Video Manipulation Expert

Hi guys, I’m Mengjing. I’m a sophomore CS major from the Chicago suburbs. I like making UIs and I also do art. In my free time I usually play video games (the ones I play most recently are Overwatch, Rimworld, and Borderlands) and board games like Secret Hitler.
In this course I expect to learn about how computer science affects advertising and vice versa. How do programming practices change because of advertising and how has advertising changed because of digitization/computer science?
I’m interested in how consumers perceive advertising and how advertising tries to change user perception, as well as the design principles that go into leading the design process through iterations on products.
